We are open seven days a week and carry the elite AAHA Accreditation. Whether it’s a dog fracture or car fracture, fractures in pets are serious and require immediate veterinarian attention. There may be damage to the blood vessels or an infection.

Fractures in pets often occur from a trauma, such as the impact of a car or leaping from a height. Depending on the impact, a dog fracture or cat fracture may be a simple hairline fracture, multiple-piece fracture or compound fracture. At our Scarsdale Animal Hospital, our skilled and compassionate vet will perform a physical exam and take X-rays to assess the extent of the fracture. Depending on the diagnosis, internal stabilization or external stabilization may be required. External stabilization utilizes splints or cast to immobilize a fracture, such as a hairline fracture. Internal stabilization requires surgery and the application of metal plates and pins. The goal is to properly align the bone, keep in stable and enhance properly healing. The healing time for fractures varies. Younger pets can heal in a few weeks, while it may take months for more mature pets.
